MARCH 2012

March sees the departure of the band's Principal Cornet player, Roman Galaska, after two years on the end seat. Roman was the band's "Top Man" for many years and after a short break, he came back to the position in 2010 to help the band out for the North West Area contest and ended up staying for another two years! The 100 mile round trip to rehearsals and engagements has finally taken its toll however and Roman has decided to look for a band closer to home. We would like to thank him for his outstanding commitment and wish him well in his future banding "career"!

FEBRUARY 2012

The band prepared in earnest for the North West Area Brass Band Championships of Great Britain on 26th February. After unluckily being drawn 1st, they played exceptionally well for their first time out in the 3rd section under the expert leadership of Roy Waite, their new Musical Director.
Thanks go to Colin Tarry, Kath Gavan and Mick Banks who helped them out for the contest and a special thanks to Hayley Tarry who stepped in at the last moment to cover for sickness on the back row!

They also said goodbye to Tom and Amy Leather on 2nd euphonium and front row cornet respectively, who leave after only a short stay after Amy was offered a top position out of the area. Tom and Amy are fine musicians and great people and the band would like to thank them and wish them well in their married life together.

JANUARY 2012

January has been a very busy month for the band preparing for the area contest at the end of February under the baton and expert leadership of Roy Waite. The band were also pleased to have been joined by Mick Banks on solo trombone, Kath Gavan on Flugel and Colin Tarry is flying in again from Germany to take the soprano seat.

DECEMBER 2011

December has been the usual busy month for the band with more carolling jobs than ever. A great big thank you to every member of the band who helped to make this a success.
Our Christmas concert this year, under the expert baton of Roy Waite, was particularly enjoyable if perhaps a little less well attended than we would have liked! It was a pleasing performance from all sections of the band though and a special mention must be given to our Soloists - Carole, Kate and Kevin for their excellent performances and also to Ray for taking on the role of Compere for the evening.

NOVEMBER 2011

The Engagements page is now fully up to date with all the Christmas jobs..please check.
The band is very pleased to welcome three new players to the fold, John Short and Tom & Amy Leather. Although an accomplished trombonist and pianist, John joins us as our new Kit Percussionist and made an impressive debut with the band at the Proms concert on 22nd October. Tom and Amy are very welcome additions to the horn and cornet sections respectively. One other move to report, John will be joined in the percussion section by long-standing member Ray Whalley who makes the move from 2nd Trombone to Tuned Percussion.
